Negril, Jamaica Day 7

Image
Last day in Negril. Must use the warm clear clam waters to the max. Talk to as many people as possible and give away the rest of the stuff we brought to the most deserving. Who are we to judge the need of another person? Yet it feels right when you think it's the right person to receive. Ocean in the morning local pastries for breakfast The seas were rough and rain was evident late afternoon. Boys wanted jerk pork from the Jerk Pork Guy. By now they have befriended the man. They had been talking about Indian Cooking. Goat curry and Dhal over rice. The man: Dean happens to be of Asian Indian origin and belonging to one of the 2 biggest Indian families in Jamaica. He apparently told the boys his nose is similar to the noses of the boys. lol. Now this vendor IS different from the rest. He is very clean, educated and breezes through the beach in a flash and all his goods gone in a flash. Dean the Jerk Pork Guy One of the things one must try before they die! No ...

Negril, Jamaica Day 6

This is the day for our rural Jamaica excursion. Up early as usual. Since we were planning to go all the way to YS(Yates & Scott) Falls it was important to leave early to beat the bus loads of tourists. We had organized a driver for 200 US$ for the day trip. Reach Savannah-la-Mar(commonly known as Sav-la-Mar, the capital of Westmoreland Parish) for breakfast at local eatery: a local breakfast place equivalent to McDonald's. Delicious! There's one of the oldest schools in Jamaica here in Sav-la-Mar. There's no secondary or higher education for the public that's free. Also, based on how you score at the end of your primary education you are assigned to a school somewhere. It's up to the parents to find means to send the child everyday to school. Most often school kids take taxi cabs to school and back. Sometimes two taxi cabs one way costing up to 400 JA$ per day. and Tuition for one subject in high school per year i 5000 JA$. There's no F...

Oooh! Up, fresh and early by 6:30am. Sun is out in full force. Time for the morning walk and Blue Mountain Coffee at our little nook at Fire Fly. We come back to find out boys are up and ready for breakfast and beach. After much persuasion they agree to join us on trip to the town sacrificing beach time. Before they left home they were very they didn’t want to do the cliché touristy things such as mini tours, amusement, adventurous activities that’s done in large scale by tourists in places like this. They said if there’s anything new they have never done before and not put their life at risk they would do it…LOL. Breakfast of course at their favorite place now: Marley’s by the Sea. Mdh and I ordered akhee and salted cod with Johnny cakes while the boys eat their usual American breakfast-for-champions. In the meantime The Fruit Lady shows up with the sour-sop for us but no custard apples. We get 4 mangoes from her as well. From Nirvana to the round-about of Neg...
